Predator Portfolio

Noted wildlife artist ROBERT BATEMAN between 1992 and 1994 created an unprecedented art portfolio of limited edition prints celebrating North America?s few remaining large predatorial mammals, species which are rapidly disappearing from existence. Animals included are cougars, wolves, grizzlies, polar bears, black bears, and wolverines.

Three different prints of each animal are included except for the wolverine of which there are two for a total of 17 prints in the complete portfolio. The prints were issued as 6 separate editions (one for each mammal) over an 18 month period. The format for each animal is a portrait approx. 9.75 x 7.875 and two habitat drawings each approx. 7.875 x 9.75 inches. The wolverine edition has a portrait and wolverine with a fox.

Only 950 complete portfolios were produced and some parts are sold out at the publisher and available only on the secondary market. This complete set with matching numberscomes in a beautiful cloth-covered box with Robert Bateman?s signature embossed on the top.

Robert Bateman originally did these drawings as illustrations for the book ?Wild Hunters: Predators in Peril? published by the World Wildlife Fund Canada to raise money to protect these predators. The artwork was in black-and-white. Mr. Bateman then made a series of separate printing plates by hand for each different color to be added. These were printed on top of the black-and-white prints. Every copy was then individually enhanced by hand-coloring, making each truly an original piece of artwork, and in subtle ways each is different from all others produced.

Shown above: portraits for the six different editions included in the portfolio. Each animal has two additional life drawings except the wolverine which has only one additional drawing.

Limited edition hand-drawn lithographs enhanced with hand coloring, 17 total prints in the portfolio, edition of 950 signed by artist, sizes: 9.75 x 7.875 and 7.875 x 9.75.
