Sports cartoons once were a centerpiece of the American daily newspaper's sports page. They conveyed a story or highlighted a sports star in a compact, simple drawing. But few sport cartoonists saved their original artwork. Today this these original works of art have become highly collectible and often quite valuable. And because there was only one original created for each newspaper installment, individuals today who "own a piece of sports history" have something no one else will ever have.
