Christmas plates by “Bing and Grondahl” date back to 1895 and were derived from Scandinavian holiday customs. A Christmas issue has occurred every year since. The quality level of these items is so high that a mold to form the piece can only be used 20-25 times in a production run before a new mold must be cast. The distinctness and quality of these cobalt blue and white plates add to their perennial appeal as gifts and collectibles. A special Christmas in America series of ten five-inch plates was crafted in the 1980s by B&G artists, including this Williamsburg plate. Also as a part of the Williamsburg group a bell and tree ornament were designed. Collector demand for B&G Christmas items has shown an upturn in recent years.
