Sometimes the Spirit Touches
James Christensen
Giclee on canvas

Sometimes the Spirit Touches Us Through Our Weaknesses

This work shows a hunchback, an Everyman, being visited by an angel and receiving the message that we grow through adversity -- we can make our weaknesses into strengths. Christensen says, "The hump is his burden. We all have burdens. The angel touches that symbol of his weakness to remind us that most growth comes through dealing with adversity."

The hunchback had been seated on a box inscribed with a Latin phrase that translates literally as "after clouds, sun" -- the equivalent of "look for the silver lining." In this follow-up image, the same character, lifted skyward by the spirit, smiles as he sees that lining. His burden, like all of ours, will be lightened.

This is an anniversary edition of a very popular 1994 James Christensen print on paper. Today's edition has a larger image size and is made on canvas with the most modern of giclee printing technology making it the closest the industry has come to looking like the original.
