Window to another world
Among the joys of childhood are fairy tales, nursery rhymes, and fantasy stories that stir one’s imagination. The Art-cade features the most-beloved childhood stories brought to life by America’s top artists – including Dr. Seuss -- in affordable prints for the child in all of us.

Storytelling art is art for the ages. Ever since man drew images on cave walls the idea was to communicate a story to others. Whether the narrative with its accompanying lessons of good and evil is one of childhood fairytales or one of a present-day child being transported forward or backward in time, the illustrations which accompany the words usually leave a much longer lasting impression than the story itself.

Storytelling art takes us back to childhood. The storyline expressed as art often is as much in what the viewer reads into the painting as in the artist’s brushstrokes – “wonder what this or that means?” Whether the work of art is a fantasy piece about myths and magical realms, a childhood fairy tale, or of enchantment and adventure they draw viewers into the image. James Christensen, one of our featured artists, suggests “Life is a journey – use your imagination to travel through it.” Walt Disney went even further. He observed that while there is very little adult in a child, there is a lot of child in every adult!
