I must go down to the sea again
Ellen Shaw MoonlightMankind has a timeless fascination with the sea – from early merchants and explorers to painters of art. The sea itself is a vast stage upon which history has unfolded. As a result the works of maritime artists, captured on canvas and paper, are a fundamental part in the history of art.

The raft, WyethMaritime art embraces a variety of emotions: soothing seascapes to swashbuckling pirates of yore, early explorers to the immigrants who built nations, compassionate interpretations of sea life to the mermaids of mythology, massive sailing ships to naval war ships, cruise ships to beacons from lighthouses…
Each image bridges the many facets of a human mind connecting one style of life with another.

Noah's ArkNot to be ignored are the fantasies of the sea, from the Biblical Ark to an imaginary flagship in a child’s mind. There is no doubt the realm of maritime art, like the oceans themselves, knows no boundaries.

Hunt, HMS SurpriseIncluded in the Maritime Art Webportfolio is a wide selection of other subjects which fancy the imagination and also become wonderful decorative accents for home or office environment.
