In the Beginning
Toby Bluth
Giclee on paper

Jiminy Cricket (everyone's favorite conscience) is featured standing in front of his books of dreams in “Pinocchio,” a 1940 Disney animated musical fantasy film based on the Italian children's novel “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Carlo Collodi. An old wood-carver named Geppetto carves a wooden puppet named Pinocchio who is brought to life by a blue fairy, who informs him that he can become a real boy if he proves himself to be "brave, truthful, and unselfish". His adventures involve encounters with a host of unsavory characters. Enter Jiminy, the conscience, for help.

It became the first animated feature to win an Academy Award – winning two for Best Original Score and for Best Original Song for "When You Wish Upon A Star" sung by Jiminy Cricket.

This wonderful giclee on paper by Toby Bluth looks just like an original watercolor painting.

Toby Bluth describes his approach in conceiving each one of his watercolor masterpieces as “creating the moment that you think you saw....” Believing that how one remembers a film is often different from the actual film itself, Toby paints what he perceives as the collective memory of a film experience and taps into the emotional essence of the story.

A blue shaded undercoat in Bluth’s watercolors adds depth, life and warm and cool shadows to each scene. He also refers to this process as painting the light and the air. He also has the ability to capture the reality that as things move away from you in distance or time, they get hazy and out of focus...much like our memory of events in our lives. Together these skills make a Toby Bluth painting a work to remember.

Sold out at publisher, but we do have a copy.
