Original Mauldin cartoon Bill Mauldin Original political cartoon "That's young Watkins. He just wanted to let us know he's with us." (caption) Famed "Willie and Joe" World War II and 20th century American political cartoonist BILL MAULDIN rarely parted with his original drawings. His originals are very hard to obtain. This one from April 16, 1946, was one of the early political cartoons he did when he returned from the European war theatre. Executed in his early pen and ink style and drawn in the classic large size cartoonists of that era used for their originals. Mauldin hand signed the cartoon in ink to his literary agent in the upper left corner of the drawing.
