Howard Chandler Christy
Enhanced lithograph
Howard Chandler Christy was one of the most popular artists of the early Twentieth Century, first earning his reputation when he accompanied the US troops to Cuba during the Spanish-American was in 1898. Later he specialized in drawing and painting fashionable "Christy Girls." He also worked closely with the Naval Academy drawing covers for their football game program covers, often showing some of his "Navy" girl images.
This piece is an enhanced lithograph reproduced by Louis Dreka, famous stationier on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, in the teens of last century. Although part of a small lithographed edition, this period image has the look of an original charcoal drawing which has been enhanced with watercolor touches. Signed by Christy on the plate. Makes a great pair with Christy's "Navy Girl in Sweater."
